John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of which were set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and moved to Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his adopted state brought many people to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the curator of this hall of fame, said: "I don't believe there any other performer who embodies Colorado as John Denver." Denver, the Hall of Fames' first inductee, was honored with the award in the year 2011. Denver is a symbol of the state to people around the world. While traveling, I may meet people at the other side of the planet. As an example, you might meet someone who is from New Zealand. And when you tell them you're from Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown stated. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short period of performing with small folk music group comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff originally wrote it using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it could be a huge hit. The song was recorded a couple of days after having performed in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
